Birthday Surprise AwesomenessPosted: August 15, 2012
I received many happy birthday wishes and fun presents from friends and family, but one birthday surprise went above and beyond the mark. My fiance knows of my deep and abiding love of pop cultures’ favorite boy wizard, Harry Potter. So he put together an amazingly fun Harry Potter themed birthday night.
That morning, he revealed the first telling present, two boxes of “Every Flavor Beans”. Which were a sweet treat favorite in the world of Harry Potter.
In addition to the candies, was a perfect movie replica of Hermione Granger’s magic wand. Which really looked a lot more awesome in person. I loved the vine work and leaves that wrapped around the outside of the wand. Even the box it came in, similar to the one I might have received from Ollivanders, was beautiful. The wand was all nestled in a black velvet cushion wrapped in a shiny ribbon. Before the final gift, my fiance took me to a lovely dinner at West Bank Cafe on 42nd street and 9th avenue in the theater district of Manhattan. Such a nice spot to chat and enjoy the evening. The food was absolutely amazing and the weight staff was extremely conscious and courteous of when our show was, and when we needed to leave the restaurant.
The biggest gift of all was hidden in the inside of the wand box. Two Tickets to “Potted Potter” a highly acclaimed hilarious live show summarizing all 7 Harry Potter books in seventy minutes. I would definitely recommend the show if you are a Harry Potter fan. Right out of the gate, I would stress that this is not a normal theater experience. The two sole performers and writers, Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, hold your attention for the full seventy minute show. Even the younger children, who were ranging from five to twelve years old, were entranced. Which, if you know the attention span of young kids, was really saying something. These two British dudes are amazingly geeky Harry Potter fans, I could tell that they loved the Harry Potter series, and they did that series justice. Dan and Jeff truly deserved the standing ovation they received at the end of the night for their outstanding writing and comedic performance. I would absolutely go back for a second viewing.
